La nascita della scienza : Mesopotamia, Egitto, Grecia antica
Abstract
Le conoscenze mesopotamiche ed egizie, acquisite senza metodo scientifico ma mescolando empirismo, razionalità, magia e mistica, e strutturandosi intorno ad oggetti specifici, quali i numeri, gli astri e gli esseri viventi, furono riprese con uno spirito del tutto diverso dalla Grecia.

Alla Mesopotamia, legata alla mistica numerica ed astrologica, ed all'Egitto, più attento ai bisogni pratici, subentrò la scienza greca che si preoccupò non tanto di accumulare risultati positivi, quanto di trovare principi generali e spiegazioni razionali. Le conoscenze scientifiche di queste tre civiltà hanno costituito le basi della scienza occidentale, che ha coltivato altri rapporti (indiani, cinesi, arabi) inserendoli però in un corpus i cui criteri erano già stabiliti.
